2011 Mt. Washington Hillclimb | Minimum Roll Cage Requirements
The following document outlines the minimum roll cage requirements for the 2011 Mt. Washington Hillclimb. Don is the Chief Technical Inspector for the Mt. Washington Hillclimb and will be able to answer any and all Class & Safety-related questions pertaining to your race car.
- All tubing used in the roll cage must be D.O.M.
- The main hoop of the roll cage must be made from one continuous length of steel – splicing is not permitted.
- Roll cage tubing dimensions (tubing diameter & wall thickness) :
- For cars weighing up to 2,500 pounds with the driver: 1.500” x .095”
- <For cars weighing 2,501 pounds or more with a driver: 1.750” x .095”
- Bolt-In roll cages are only permitted if they are fully welded together and are welded to the car.
- Two (2) side bars are required on the occupied side of the car.
- The use of “X” bars for side protection is permitted, however a sill bar must also be used. The distance between the bottom of the sill bar and the floor must not exceed six (6) inches.
- Gussets must be used in the top four (4) corners of the roll cage (see the roll cage diagram below at locations: B, C, J & K). Gussets must be made from either 1.0” x .090 D.O.M. tubing or .125 flat stock steel.
- If the main hoop of the roll cage has a full “X” welded into it as shown on the diagram Fig.2 below, a rear diagonal bar is not required.
